Abstract Construction Using Frit, Glass, Paint and Kiln Session 1
SOLD OUT. WAITING LIST AVAILABLE
Tim Carey is a classically trained painter that formed his own incredible process through schooling at the Arts Center College of Design in Pasadena, the guidance of Narcissus Quagliata, and designing at Judson Studios. The Glass Underground is so excited to host a 5-day workshop with Tim Carey as one of April’s visiting artists! The CA-based glass artist will be teaching you the techniques of abstraction and application on glass.
Glass is perhaps the ultimate material with which to create light-filled, expressive paintings. Even if you are not a painter, you can learn how to use glass in its many forms to create organic shapes, strokes, and textures, combined with traditional glass paints to create images of great beauty. This workshop is not about rendering something perfectly, but about exploring what glass can do if we “provoke” it in certain ways. Students will learn to use enamels, sheet glass, frit, and accessory glasses as well as their own custom “premade material” to build images of any style.
Tim was trained in traditional drawing and painting at Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, CA and spent the first 5 years of his career as a figurative oil painter and muralist. He discovered stained glass and specifically glass painting by chance, on a tour of The Judson Studios in Los Angeles in 2003. He was immediately hooked, and took a part time job at the Studios as a glass painter. This part time job quickly became a full time passion, and he ended up spending 14 amazing years at the Studios. Now he’d like to share all that with you!
All glass and materials are included. Either bring lunch, or we will order out and pick up for you!
