Fragile Nature in Glass with Amanda Simmons

SOLD OUT!

WAITING LIST AVAILABLE!

In this class we will investigate how thin we can work with glass and vessel forming. Amanda will take you through the basics of working with glass powders on a base sheet to make delicate kilnformed vessels and then further your knowledge using patterns in nature to inspire our powder designs and explore different textures, layering and coldworking our fragile forms.

Amanda will demonstrate her techniques with working with powder vessels and will highlight some of her own large scale studio work as examples. We start with making samples, building a small collection to inform your work during the week and beyond. Adjusting the temperature in different firings will give many textural finishes. Working with medium and large rings the student will build a small collection of very delicate, patterned vessels to take home plus plenty of notes on the technical side of making vessels.

This workshop is suitable for those with some previous vessel making or coldworking skills.

All glass and materials are included. Either bring lunch, or we will order out and pick up for you! If you are interested in renting a room, please tell us in the note field at check-out.

There will also be a dinner hosted by Meryl Raiffe, filled with fun and games!
